Language and culture lessons
Some people learn best from a book in which the grammar is extensively explained and by doing exercises. Others prefer to practice orally (knowing a related language, or after a few basic lessons), preparing for real conversations outside the class environment. Some like learning vocabulary first, others prefer to start with the grammar. Whatever system works for you; Ellen and her team will adapt to provide just what you need.
Any and all questions you have about the language, culture or everyday obstacles you encounter can be discussed. For example, we can help you find a child-care nearby, or a sports club. Or we can provide a list of target-language films, based on your preferences for passive (and fun!) learning.
The objective of the language lessons is to make you feel at home, to take away obstacles that may be holding you back, when building up a full life in your new country of residence.
We’ll assess your needs, language background, availability, learning style, and prepare a training plan just for you. Your progress is up to you. The harder you work, the faster you’ll learn the new language and culture. We’ll stimulate your learning process, but you’ll have to put in effort. We’ll do our very best to make it pleasant and interesting.
In addition to the language lessons, you’ll be able to choose from a variety of cultural activities with a personal language and culture assistant. Some are listed on our website, like visiting the Keukenhof in Lisse and discover the wide variety of tulips or visiting the Wings of Liberation Museum in Eindhoven, and others are on-demand, like going to a specific restaurant to discover Dutch specialties or touring a charming village or town exuding history. If you have something in mind, ask and we’ll do our best to arrange it.
Venue
Our language and culture assistants travel to your office or home to provide lessons at a time that suits you. It is also possible to arrange lessons in a public place.
If you prefer to meet online, some of our teachers provide this service too. Get in touch to discuss the options.
Number of learners
Lessons are provided for single learners or small groups. For example, a newly arrived employee and their partner. Or two or three new employees from the same company. Learning in groups helps boost active target language experience, because you’ll always have someone to practice with, but even if you are alone, our language and culture assistants are more than able to bring the sessions to life and ensure you communicate as much as possible.
